喉頭隆起；アダムのリンゴLaryngeal prominence(Prominentia laryngea)

Adam's apple喉頭隆起；アダムのリンゴ【こうとうりゅうき；あだむのりんご】 Prominence in the midline of the neck caused by the thyroid cartilage. It is more pronounced in men (Adam's apple).(『アダムのリンゴ』ともよばれる。甲状軟骨による後頭隆起をさす。いわゆる「のど仏」である禁断の木の実（実際はリンゴではなくイチジクであったという）を食べたアダムが、これを喉に詰まらせたことに由来するという。この語が英語の医学用語として出現したのは1750年頃とされている。)
